Buuri MP escapes injury in Nanyuki–Meru Road accident
By Kenneth Mwenda, January 22, 2026Buuri Member of Parliament (MP) Mugambi Rindikiri escaped serious harm in a road accident on Thursday morning, January 22, 2026, along the Nanyuki–Meru highway.
The legislator was travelling to Kinoru Stadium in Meru to attend President William Ruto’s NYOTA programme when the crash occurred.
The incident took place near Siraji in Timau. According to reports, Rindikiri’s vehicle collided with another car carrying Catholic sisters. Emergency teams and security officers arrived at the scene promptly. They secured the area and checked all passengers.
All people in both vehicles came out unharmed. Preliminary reports indicate that the MP did not suffer any major or life-threatening injuries.
Rindikiri later updated the public on social media. He thanked those who showed concern.
“My team and I appreciate the concern shown following a road incident. We are all safe and doing well. Thank you to my constituents and fellow Kenyans for the prayers and goodwill,” he wrote on Facebook.

President William Ruto and Deputy President Kithure Kindiki attended the NYOTA event as planned at Kinoru Stadium in Meru County. The forum focused on the Nyota Project Business Start-Up Capital Disbursement, a programme aimed at empowering young entrepreneurs with funding and opportunities.
Kenya’s highway safety risks
The accident highlights ongoing safety challenges on Kenyan roads, particularly on busy highways such as the Nanyuki–Meru route. Drivers frequently travel at high speeds, and traffic can build up around towns like Timau.
Recent accidents elsewhere in the country, including multi-vehicle pile-ups, have led to deaths and injuries. Authorities continue to urge motorists to slow down, avoid distractions, and maintain their vehicles.
Road accidents remain a major problem across Kenya. Police statistics show that 294 people died in separate road crashes between January 1 and January 21, 2026, marking an increase compared with the same period last year. More than 600 people were injured and are currently receiving treatment in hospitals
Government agencies and police work to reduce accidents through campaigns, patrols, and road upgrades, but challenges remain.
