The Bomet business community on Monday stormed various offices to protest about water shortage in the town.

The protestors stormed the offices of the Kenya Power company, Bomet water company (BOMWASCO) and the County Executive Committee in charge of Water demanding that they clear the bills that have resulted in a shortage of water supply in Bomet town and its neighborhood.

Address grievances

This action followed peaceful demonstrations staged by the Gen-Z last week, where they demanded that governor Hillary Barchok (pictured) addresses their grievances, including the lack of water supply for more than five months.

They stated that the political conflicts between the county government and the Kenya Power must end for the residents of Bomet to benefit.

Led by Patrick Rotich, a businessperson, the protestors visited the company’s Bomet branch office last week and discovered that the county government had indeed cleared their bill, yet they were still experiencing a lack of water due to failure of power to pump them to various destinations.

They described the situation as a political issue between them and the county governor and asserted their right to fight for their rights as the beneficiaries of these political conflicts.

“We came to this office last week to demand an explanation about the bill, and we found that the arrears were nil. If the leaders of these offices have political differences with our governor, they should resolve their issues because we are the ones suffering,” Rotich said.
