Bobi Wine pressures Ugandan govt to release Bob Njagi and Nicholas Oyoo
By Joel Masibo, October 11, 2025The National Unity Platform party presidential aspirant and Uganda’s opposition leader, Robert Kyagulanyi, alias Bobi Wine, has again pressured the Ugandan government to release two Kenyan activists, Bob Njagia and Nicholas Oyoo, from abduction.
Njagi and Oyoo went missing on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, in Kampala, as they were taken away by armed operatives at a petrol station in Kireka, shortly after attending Bobi Wine’s political event. Their abduction has sparked outrage from opposition leaders and human rights defenders regionally and the United Nations human rights defenders.
In his latest call to the Ugandan authorities, who have since denied holding the two, Bobi Wine has asked the East African region and the outside world to unite against what he terms ‘the criminal regime’ led by President Yoweri Museveni for human rights violations.

”WHAT A COUNTRY! To imagine that Uganda’s rogue regime has refused to release Kenyan activists Bob Njagi and Nicholas Oyoo from incommunicado detention is most unfortunate. The two were abducted on 1st October by heavily armed men and have been missing since. Despite demands by citizens and rights groups, the criminal regime still refuses to release them or account for them,” Bobi Wine took to X on Friday evening, October 10, 2025.
The musician-cum-politician has further revealed that disappearance cases in Uganda have been rampant in recent years, with many victims still missing five years later.
”Their crime? Coming to Uganda to express solidarity with our cause for democratic governance. This has been the fate of thousands of our supporters, including 18 people who have been missing for over 5 years now. All citizens of the world, and in particular the people of Africa and East Africa, must say ENOUGH to these crimes against humanity. When we lose our fear, these criminal regimes will lose their power,” Bobi Wine said.
UN condemns abduction
His sentiments come after United Nations Special Rapporteur on Human Rights Defenders, Mary Lawlor, has condemned the abduction of the two.
In her X statement released on Friday, October 10, 2025, Lawlor asked relevant authorities to investigate the disappearance of the two Kenyans whose whereabouts are still unknown, almost two weeks after their disappearance.
”Very disturbed by the reported continued disappearance of Kenyan HRDs Bob Njagi & Nicholas Oyoo in Uganda. The two defenders were allegedly abducted by unidentified armed men in Kampala on October 1, 2025. Ugandan authorities must investigate & secure the safe release of Bob and Nicholas,” Mary Lawlor said.
However, despite external pressure from family and human rights defenders, Ugandan authorities have denied involvement in the abduction of Bob Njagi and Nicholas Oyoo.
