The National Industrial Training Authority (NITA) cannot account for billions of shillings, an audit report shows.

Auditor General Nancy Gathungu in her report for the year ending June 2021 says she had rendered an adverse opinion on the institution as it did not comply with Industrial Training Act, 2011 and the Public Finance Management Act, 2012.

Among the issues raised include queries relating to property, plant and equipment, unsupported investments, unsupported cash in hand, inaccuracies in training levy, long outstanding imprests, inaccuracies in the statement of financial performance, statement of changes in net assets, statement of cash flows, statement of comparison of budget and actual amounts.

“Because of the significance of the matters discussed in the basis for adverse opinion section of my report, the financial statements do not present fairly, the financial position of National Industrial Training Authority as at June 30, 2021, and of its financial performance and its cash flows for the year then ended, in accordance with the International Public Sector Accounting Standards (Accrual Basis) and do not comply with the Industrial Training Act, 2011 and the Public Finance Management Act, 2012,” Gathungu says in the report.
