Song and dance greeted the return of award-winning teacher Erick Ademba yesterday, who won the 2019 inaugural African Union continental teacher prize.

The 35-year-old jetted back to the country from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, after he was awarded on Wednesday, even more determined to positively influence the lives of the students.

He expressed his gratitude for being nominated and subsequently bagging the award.

“I attribute this fete to my students and colleagues who make me who I am. I want to be a great teacher because I see how my students perform and that drives me,” said a jovial Ademba.

Ademba, a Mathematics and Chemistry teacher at Asumbi Girls received a cash prize of Sh1 million and a certificate after he emerged victorious.

TSC chief executive Dr Nancy Macharia, in a speech delivered on her behalf by Director Administrative Services Ibrahim Mumin, said Ademba’s win confirms the high calibre of teachers attending to children in the country.
