‘Arresting youth using technology to express their frustrations is refusing to accept the future’ – Senator Ledama warns
Narok county senator Ledama Olekina has said that the government is refusing to accept the future by arresting the youth who are trying to express their frustrations by using technology.
Taking to his official X account on Monday, January 13, 2025, Ledama stated that it is now time for the country to have a conversation on what to expect for the future generations.
According to Leadama, the country should not deny technology its way.
He further warned that Artificial Intelligence (AI) will soon take over if the government continues fighting the technology.
“By arresting youth who are using technology to express their frustrations is refusing to accept the future …it’s time to have a conversation on what to expect for the future generations. My view here is quite unorthodox I must admit, but I believe it’s the truth … let’s not deny technology let us talk to each other or soon AI will take over,” Ledama stated.

“Our duty as leaders is to protect what is most important to us -: our children and AI has been unleashed to the most unprepared world. This utopian ideas paralyze governments and confuses everyone especially this time when the benefits of prosperity benefits only those who are already wealthy,” Ledama added.

Govt’s warns the youth
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) lawmaker’s remarks come amid ongoing abductions targeting youthful critics of the President William Ruto’s administrations, with Kenyans, among them Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi, calling for an urgent action.
However, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen on Saturday, January 11, 2025, warned youth whom he said were misusing social media and those engaged in cybercrime that they will be arrested and prosecuted.
The CS said the government will firmly deal with crime in the country, and that it will ensure that all citizens are accounted for in the backdrop of claims of kidnappings.
“Even those who have been accused of various crimes, we will ensure that they are produced before a court of law so that they can be charged,” Murkomen said.
“The business of the government of Kenya is not to abduct people but arrest and charge them on court. I want to assure you that we will be very firm and thorough in following the law,” Murkomen, who was accompanied by his Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo, added.
The CS was speaking in Siongiroi, Chepalungu constituency in Bomet county during the funeral service for Ian Kiprotich Singoei, a 26-year-old engineer whose body was found floating in Mwiki river, Kasarani after he went missing for four days.
