Arati raises alarm over graft at institutions

Governor Simba Arati has raised concern over rampant graft at vocational training centres, saying, it is hampering growth of the institutions.
Consequently, he has warned principals of the VTCs, stressing, they risk arrest and prosecution to deter others.
The governor directed Education Executive Committee Member, Eric Ongeri to suspend corrupt principals to face disciplinary and dismissal if found culpable. “ We cannot allow the vocational training centres to be turned into havens for graft” Arati said.
The governor cited a case where one of the principals hired a teacher as an accountant, who received fees through Mpesa and embezzled funds.
“ The teacher collected Sh5m which cannot be accounted for” Arati said.
He spoke at Kisii Agricultural Training Centre after he launched disbursement of Sh77m bursary to form one and VTC students.
The county, noted the governor had disbursed Sh167m bursary to forms two, three and four, delaying that of form ones while awaiting for them to be admitted to enhance the process.
