Blocking avenues for corruption has saved Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital (KTRH) millions of shillings, Governor Simba Arati has said, vowing to sustain the drive against the vice and improve services.

His political rivals, Arati claimed, had ganged up to slow down the campaign against graft, saying he is prepared to face them and leave the county better than he found it. Rampant corruption at KTRH, he added had undermined services.

“Corrupt individuals colluded and stole drugs and equipment from the hospital. I reversed the trend,” Arati said at a meeting at Irongo, Bobasi constituency.

The hospital, the governor said, used to lose millions of shillings to corruption but now its revenues have increased from Sh47 million to Sh200 million quarterly since he intervened.

He said the hospital uses its own revenues to fund its operations.

He added that the number of children and adults who used to die at KTRH had dropped drastically due to improved services
