George Oduor’s burial

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga‘s long-serving bodyguard and aide, George Oduor, will be laid to rest at his rural home in Ndori, Asembo, in Siaya County.

Oduor died on Wednesday, April 2, while undergoing treatment at a city hospital.

His body was transported to Ndori on Friday, April 11, 2025.

Prior to transporting the body, friends and leaders joined the family of Oduor for a memorial service at the House of Grace in Nairobi.

Emotions ran high as they eulogised him as an honest and dependable person who had become a family member.

The leaders included Petroleum and Energy CS Opiyo Wandayi, Westlands MP Timothy Wanyonyi, and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna.

Raila mourned him as a dependable rock not only to him but also to the larger Jaramogi Oginga Odinga family.

UDA grassroots elections

The ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party will conclude the second phase of its grassroots elections in 22 counties across the country.

The UDA party members from Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, Taita Taveta, Kisii, and Nyamira counties participated in the exercise on Friday, April 11, while those from Garissa, Tana River, Bungoma, Turkana, Migori, Kisumu, Siaya, Isiolo, Marsabit, Wajir, Mandera, Kwale, Mombasa, Kilifi, and Lamu will hold their elections today, April 12.

UDA, in a statement shared on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, confirmed its readiness for the grassroots elections.

“All systems are now set for Phase Two of the UDA Party grassroots elections in 22 counties this weekend. The exercise set for this Friday and Saturday was the subject of a high-level meeting, chaired by party chairperson H.E. Cecily Mbarire, on Tuesday morning at Hustler Plaza. The meeting brought on board the party’s National Steering Committee, the National Elections Board (NEB), and the management,” UDA stated.

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, in a statement issued on Friday, April 11, called on the UDA party members to turn out in large numbers and choose leaders who reflect their values and vision.

“As the United Democratic Alliance (@UDAKenya) kicks off grassroots elections in 22 counties today and tomorrow, I call on our members to turn out in large numbers and choose leaders who reflect their values and vision. This exercise marks a bold stride in anchoring the Party’s presence across all 47 counties, as we work to align local leadership with the transformative goals of our BETA manifesto. I urge interim officials to uphold transparency and ensure the voice of every member is respected throughout this process,” Mudavadi stated.

They prevailed in all four quarters—11-6, 20-7, 14-14, and 18-8 — to book their place in the final.
