UDA confirms readiness for second phase of grassroots elections

The ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party will conduct the second phase of its grassroots elections in 22 counties across the country on Friday, April 11, 2025, and Saturday, April 12, 2025.
UDA, in a statement shared on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, said that the exercise was the subject of a high-level meeting, chaired by the party chairperson Cecily Mbarire, in the morning at Hustler Plaza.
The meeting was attended by the party’s National Steering Committee, the National Elections Board (NEB), and the management.
“All systems are now set for Phase Two of the UDA Party grassroots elections in 22 counties this weekend. The exercise set for this Friday and Saturday was the subject of a high-level meeting, chaired by party chairperson H.E. Cecily Mbarire, on Tuesday morning at Hustler Plaza. The meeting brought on board the party’s National Steering Committee, the National Elections Board (NEB), and the management,” UDA stated.
Counties set for UDA polls
The party members from Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, Taita Taveta, Kisii and Nyamira counties will participate in the exercise on Friday, April 11, while those from Garissa, Tana River, Bungoma, Turkana, Migori, Kisumu, Siaya, Isiolo, Marsabit, Wajir, Mandera, Kwale, Mombasa, Kilifi and Lamu will hold their elections on April 12.
The UDA NEB Chairman Anthony Mwaura told the meeting that logistical arrangements for the polls had been finalised, and his team was ready to dispatch election materials and roll out other requirements for the exercise.
“We have finalised all the arrangements for the elections. The personnel are ready while poll materials are assembled and ready for dispatch,” Mwaura is quoted to have told the UDA meeting.
The UDA party’s Disciplinary Committee, led by Charles Njenga, had earlier warned of stern action against participants and supporters who will violate the party constitution and code of conduct during the polls.
Postponement
UDA had, on June 27, 2024, postponed grassroots elections in 14 counties due to the deadly anti-finance bill demonstrations that rocked the nation in June and July 2024.
The party had urged aspirants to remain patient and await further communication regarding a new election date.
“The National Election Board of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) hereby issues this formal notice regarding the grassroots elections originally scheduled for June 28 and 29, 2024,” part of the June 26, 2024, notice read.
“Due to unavoidable circumstances, the Board has determined that it is necessary to postpone the aforementioned grassroots elections,” the ruling party told its members.
