Anthony Kibagendi: I have been aggressively blocked and arrested
Kitutu Chache South Member of Parliament Anthony Kibagendi has taken to his social media platforms to state that he has been arrested by officers he believes are from the Directorate of Criminal Investigation.
The lawmaker confirmed his plight through a series of social media statements, claiming that he was being driven towards the DCI Headquarters along Kiambu Road.

In a statement on his Facebook page on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, Kibagendi lamented the arrest, suggesting that he was aggressively apprehended after being blocked.
“I have been aggressively blocked by DCI officers and arrested and taken to DCI HQs,” Kibagendi’s statement read in part.
Terms the arrest as intimidation
In another post, he has stated that he is being held at Muthaiga police station, castigating President William Ruto and the Cabinet Secretary for Interior Kipchumba Murkomen for the arrest, terming it as intimidation over his opposition to the government.

“Someone tell Murkomen and William Ruto that we shall not be intimidated,” added Kibagendi.
Kibagendi has been appearing in the limelight on his controversial moves and criticism of the government, the most recent being his controversial confrontation with the cabinet secretary for health, Aden Duale, during a heated parliamentary session in which Aden Duale was appearing. Kibagendi accused the CS of being disrespectful to him and that he entered the doors of parliament agitated during the session that led to an almost blow-by-blow exchange argument.

The MP has also been linked to previous confrontations with other leaders, including at a function on Friday, September 2025, during the burial of the stepmother of Kisii Governor James ongwae where they were engaged in a physical confrontation with Kitutu Chache North MP Japhet Nyakundi.
By the time of this publication, the security officers had not issued an official statement regarding Kibagendi’s claims.
