AFC Leopards head coach Fred Ambani has explained what has sparked striker Christopher Koloti into life after returning from a loan deal.

Koloti was among the Ingwe scorers during their 3-1 win over Mathare United, with Kayci Odhiambo and Ronald Sichenje scoring the other goals.

Koloti was loaned to the Slum Boys under Ambani’s predecessor, Tomas Trucha, but returned to AFC Leopards when his parent club was affected by injuries.

“We loaned him out in the first leg, although it wasn’t my decision — it was coach Trucha’s. Personally, I wanted him to stay, but every coach has his own philosophy. If a player doesn’t fit into that, he can’t remain in the squad,” Ambani explained, as per a local media publication.

Ambani stated that the patience they had on Koloti is now paying dividends.

“Once he came back, he had to adapt to our style. I had to retrain him to play the way I wanted, and that transition took time.

“But I’m glad we were patient. He’s added something we were missing — physicality. He puts pressure on defenders and plays with aggression. That’s a unique quality in our current forward line,” the former Wazito FC head coach noted.

During his time with the Slum Boys, the striker managed only one goal for the Eastlands side as he rarely played.

He returned to Ingwe alongside experienced midfielder Kevin Kimani. The striker has now found the back of the net three times and is trailing the club’s top scorer, Sydney Lokale, by just two goals.

Lokale has been sidelined by an injury that later saw him undergo surgery.

Meanwhile, Koloti is expected to lead AFC Leopards’ attacks during their next game against Bandari in Mombasa.
