AG Oduor: We will have to change rules of public service to fit Gen Zs
Attorney General Dorcas Oduor has signaled a paradigm shift in the rules of the public service sector for it to be aligned with the country’s young population, commonly known as the Gen Zs.
Speaking on Wednesday, August 25, 2025, during the commemoration of the Katiba Day in KICC, Oduor stated that the country should mull the challenge, as most of them remain at odds with most of the existing rules.
“In my experience at the office of the Attorney General, we are trying to embrace Gen Zs, but we have to change almost all the rules of public service, almost for them to fit into our public service. of them is flexible working hours,” she stated.
Her sentiments came after different speakers during the Katiba Day dominated on the Gen Zs, particularly in relation to their anti-government protests and demands for change.
Retired Chief Justice David Maraga, while speaking at the function, saluted the young population’s firm stance in guarding against cases of abuse of law.

“I pay special tribute to the Gen Zs, a generation that has strongly decided that – at a time the political elite are doing everything to undermine Katiba – it will invest all its energies in giving new impetus and strength to Katiba,” Maraga said.
He observed that many young Kenyans have paid the ultimate price in recent months, losing their lives in protests against corruption, poor governance, and violations of constitutional principles.

Meanwhile, Oduor affirmed that as the chief legal adviser to the government, she remains committed to constitutionalism, promoting fidelity to respect the constitution.
She noted that her office will continue to be a defender of the rule of law, people’s rights and offer legal advice.
The commemoration of the Katiba Day marked fifteen years of progress and achievements of the 2010 constitution. According to an earlier announcement by President William Ruto, the observance was adopted to foster constitutional awareness and civic engagement
