AFC Leopards held as KCB, Bidco share spoils
AFC Leopards and Sofapaka shared points following a 1-1 draw in a Football Kenya Federation Premier League staged at Nyayo Stadium on Sunday, April 7, 2024.
Batoto ba Mungu stunned Ingwe after taking the lead in the second minute after Rodgers Kipkemboi easily made his way past his markers and found the back of the net.
Darius Msagha had a chance to extend the lead for the 2009 Premier League winners but the Ugandan hit the post. Another chance came when Jacob Onyango almost struck but Levis Opiyo made a stunning save to deny the visitors.
AFC Leopards’ first real chance came in the 37th minute but Kayci Odhiambo saw his volley go off target before Evans Omondi saved a low effort by Victor Omune.
Arthur Gitego had his chances to equalise and even put AFC Leopards ahead but his two chances in the late stages of the first half went unconverted.
As the second half began, Omune came close to getting an equaliser but his header hit the post. Opiyo continued to remain solid within the goalpost for Ingwe as he kept a powerful shot from Thomas Kakire at bay.
Ingwe finally got the equaliser in the 58th minute when Omune scored. After conceding, Sofapaka kept fighting and Msagha had a chance to restore their lead but Opiyo pulled off another big save to keep the scoreline at par.
With the result, Ingwe will remain in the eighth position with 36 points, while Batoto ba Mungu are 15th, just slightly above the danger zone with 28 points.
KCB, Bidco draw
In an earlier kickoff duel staged at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos, KCB and Bidco United shared spoils from a 0-0 draw.
This was an immediate match for both sides after their earlier showdown in the FKF Cup that went in favour of KCB.
The match did not see much-threatening action in the first half and none of the sides could find a breakthrough before the break.
Derrick Otieno created chances and one of the outstanding one was when he set up Philemon Nyakwaka through on goal. The latter could, however, not find the back of the net as the shot flew wide from close range.
Haniff Wesonga, Daniel Odiwuor and Tsuma Said had chances for their respective sides, but none found the back of the net. Tsuma, a former Thika United and AFC Leopards midfielder, was voted the man of the match.
