Mombasa Governor Abdullswamad Sharrif Nassir has mourned a county askari who died in a road accident while on duty, describing the loss as painful for both the county government and the people of Mombasa.

The governor shared his message on X on Saturday, January 17, 2026, paying tribute to the officer’s service and dedication. The incident happened at the Kengeleni intersection, a busy area within Mombasa County, where the officer was performing his duties at the time of the accident.

In his statement, the governor first addressed the loss of the officer and extended his condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues affected by the tragedy.

“It is with deep sorrow and a heavy heart that I convey my heartfelt condolences following the tragic passing of Modir Abdalla Bwanamzee, who lost his life as a result of an unfortunate traffic accident while on duty at the Kengeleni intersection,” he wrote.

Governor Abdullswamad went on to highlight the officer’s short but meaningful journey within the County Inspectorate Service, noting that his commitment to public service began long before his official recruitment.

“Officer Modir had only recently been recruited into the County Inspectorate Service and was serving in the Traffic Division at the time of his untimely death. Even before his formal recruitment, he had distinguished himself as a selfless and committed volunteer with the Storm Water Response Team, demonstrating an unwavering dedication to the safety and well-being of the people of Mombasa,” part of the governor’s statement reads.

“His journey from volunteer service to a frontline officer was a true reflection of his character, one defined by duty, courage, and an abiding love for public service. He gave his life while faithfully serving the public, a sacrifice that will not be forgotten.”

As the county comes to terms with the loss, Governor Abdullswamad reassured the bereaved family and colleagues that they are not alone during this difficult time.

“On behalf of the County Government of Mombasa and the people we serve, I extend my deepest sympathies to his family, friends, and colleagues. We stand with you during this moment of profound grief and loss,” he wrote.

He concluded his message by honouring the officer’s legacy and offering a final farewell, calling on residents to remember his service and commitment to duty.

“May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may his legacy of service continue to inspire us all,” he wrote.
