7 arrested over violent clash at Kariobangi North PCEA church
The National Police Service (NPS) has arrested seven suspects linked to the violent disturbances that disrupted a thanksgiving service at PCEA Kariobangi North on Sunday, November 30, 2025. The suspects were apprehended in the Lucky Summer area and are currently being processed ahead of arraignment.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, NPS confirmed that the suspects were traced through ongoing investigations into the incident, which left several people injured and brought a church service to a halt.
“The National Police Service confirms the arrest of seven suspects linked to the Kariobangi North PCEA Church disturbances,” the statement read in part.
“Further arrests are expected upon completion of investigations, including photographic and acoustic analysis reports.”
Violence
The clashes broke out during a thanksgiving event celebrating the election victory of Kariobangi North MCA David Wanyoike of the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP). The event was attended by several leaders, including former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
According to earlier police reports, a group of youths armed with crude weapons attempted to storm the church compound as the event was concluding. Officers on duty called for reinforcement as a second group of youths approached, resulting in a violent confrontation that spilt into the church. Six people were injured and taken to the hospital.
The incident drew widespread concern, with many questioning the rising political temperatures in the city.

Following the incident, social media posts alleged that police lobbed teargas canisters inside the sanctuary. The NPS dismissed these claims as false.
“We wish to correct misinformation alleging that a tear gas canister was thrown into the church,” NPS spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga said.
Church leadership has confirmed that no such incident occurred, and the service resumed and concluded peacefully.”
Those arrested have been identified as Charles Otieno Opiyo, Wilson Okoth alias M.C. Otieno, Michael Mutunga Kavulunze, Brian Omondi Odhiambo alias “Bryo”, Reggy Opiyo Otwole, Elisha Otieno Ochieng and Gordon Odhiambo Onyango.
The police say the suspects were found within Lucky Summer and are believed to have played a key role in the confrontation.
The NPS has urged any witnesses or individuals with additional information to come forward and assist with the ongoing investigation.
“We beseech Kenyans to work collaboratively with the police for the good of all,” NPS said.
