13 injured after two school buses collide in West Pokot accident
By Emmanuel Rono, July 28, 2026At least 13 people have been injured following a road traffic incident involving two school buses carrying 101 pupils in the Riting Area, West Pokot County, on Tuesday, July 28, 2026.
The Kenya Red Cross Society in a statement said its emergency response teams evacuated 13 casualties, comprising six males and seven females, to Kapenguria Referral Hospital for medical attention.

“Psychosocial support is being provided to those affected, while teachers and students are being moved to a safe holding area,” the organisation said in an update.
Response teams from West Pokot and Turkana counties have been deployed to the scene, working alongside county ambulance services, the National Police Service and other emergency responders.
An additional ambulance from Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen) has also joined the rescue efforts as authorities continue to manage the situation.
The Kenya Red Cross said it remains on the ground assisting the affected pupils, teachers and other victims as investigations into the incident continue.
