The government has unveiled a new policy allowing minors to apply for scholarships and loans using their KCSE index numbers.

This initiative, announced by Huduma Kenya, opens the door for young students to secure financial aid even before they receive their national ID cards.

According to Huduma Kenya, minors below 18 years old can submit their applications with their KCSE index numbers and must attach a copy of their birth certificate instead of a national ID card. This provision allows younger students to access educational funding without the requirement of a national identification document.

“Good News! Hauna ID, Come Vile Uko, Tutakusort! If you are below 18 years, you are allowed to apply for Loans and Scholarships using your KCSE Index number and attach a copy of your birth certificate in place of the National ID card,” the statement read in part.

Huduma Kenya has announced that individuals aged 18 and above who have applied for, but have not yet received, their national ID cards, are still eligible to apply for scholarships and loans.

Applicants in this category must provide evidence of their ID application (such as a waiting card) along with their KCSE result slip or a confirmatory message from KNEC.

“For those above 18 years who have applied for but not yet received their national ID cards, they can also apply for scholarships and loans using their KCSE index numbers,” Huduma Kenya stated.
