Political analyst, lawyer, and former Safina Party deputy presidential aspirant Willis Otieno has sent a strong warning to legacy politicians over their role in the recent Saba Saba protests and past demonstrations.

Speaking during a podcast aired in the late hours of Tuesday, July 8, 2025, Otieno accused the political class of using the police to suppress constitutional rights.

He said the ongoing crackdown on protesters is not only unconstitutional but also amounts to crimes against humanity that will not go unpunished.

The lawyer questioned the government’s actions during the Saba Saba protests, including the blockade of the Central Business District and the reckless shooting by police officers in residential areas.

According to him, police were deployed not to maintain order but to carry out orders from legacy politicians intended to instill fear and intimidate Kenyans into silence.

“The police are being used by legacy politicians to undermine our constitution. The right to picket is in the Constitution. They blocked the CBD. What were they doing in the residential areas? Why were they shooting in people’s homes? It’s the police being used by legacy politicians,” Otieno said.

He declared that the line has been drawn; this is now a standoff between ordinary Kenyans and entrenched legacy politicians.

He warned that the day of reckoning is coming, and those responsible will be held to account under the law. He stressed that Kenyans are watching, recording, and documenting every act of brutality and suppression.

“The battle lines have been drawn. It’s the Kenyans and legacy politicians, and the police have decided to side with the legacy politicians, but their time is coming, and we must keep reminding them, and this day and time we are recording every atrocity that is being committed on the people of Kenya,” he added.

Time for accountability

He asserted that justice may take time, but eventually, those behind the atrocities will be made to stand in court and answer for their actions, even in their old age.

According to Otieno, Kenyans will have their say and their way, and when that moment arrives, no one will be spared from accountability.

“The people of Kenya will call them to account, and accounting will happen when they stand on the dock to answer to these atrocities; even in their old age, they will still answer,” he concluded.
