Willis Otieno calls out hypocrisy in govt officials mourning Raila Odinga
By Joel Masibo, November 10, 2025Lawyer Willis Otieno has called out hypocrisy in government officials streaming Opoda Farm to console the family of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
Following his demise on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, leaders from across the political divide have been mourning the departed Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader, with all singing songs of praise, hailing Odinga as a father of democracy and a champion of better governance.

However, as leaders both in government and opposition continue to stand with the Odinga family during this period of grief, Willis Otieno has called out leaders who tormented Raila Odinga during his days on earth, fighting for the rights of the less privileged and pushing for various government reforms, transparency in the electoral system, among others.
Calling out tomentors
”Now the same people who ordered the teargas and funded the bullets pretend to be his friends, singing freedom songs they never believed in. Hypocrisy on steroids! Raila was not fighting ghosts; he was fighting them, their theft, their lies, and their rotten system,” Otieno took to X on Monday, November 10, 2025.
The late Raila Odinga was more often subjected to excessive force and police brutality, characterised by live bullet shootings and the use of teargas against his supporters whenever they gathered to deliberate and fight injustice within the government.
In his sentiments, Willis Otieno has argued that the current heavy military machinery was purchased to silence Raila Odinga and his supporters, stating that the state officials mourning are the ones who procured the weapons and military trucks.

Police brutality
Raila Odinga’s supporters often took to the streets to protest the high cost of living and electoral malpractices; their presence on major highways and urban centres was met with the full force of armed police, as Willis Otieno blasts those who were in office giving the orders.
”Those police trucks you see terrorising Gen Z today? They were first bought to crush Raila’s demonstrations. The same regime that perfected police brutality on him now uses the same playbook on the youth. Let’s not rewrite history. When Raila bled for democracy, they called him mad. When he buried his supporters, they called it peace. When he stood firm, they called it chaos. They broke his bones, then stole his voice and now want to borrow his legacy,” Willis Otieno added.
Meanwhile, members of the public and leaders alike are still visiting Opoda Farm to mourn with the family of the Late Raila Odinga.
