Mathira Member of Parliament Rigathi Gachagua has responded to President Uhuru Kenyatta after the president blasted people who he said are now working in political rallies on top of cars instead of working in offices.

Speaking on Wednesday in Kitale, Gachugua interpreted the remarks to have been directed to Deputy President William Ruto saying that it was unfair for the Head of State to attack his deputy who he says has supported him for over 10 years.

He then claimed that members of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) cannot be distracted by such sentiments explaining that they will continue speaking from the top of cars and any other available vessels including wheelbarrows and carts.

“I want to tell them that we will now speak even on top of carts and wheelbarrows. They will not distract us from supporting Ruto in his quest to transform this country,” Gachagua said.

“We respect you Mr President but trying to meddle with your succession politics is not good. William Ruto supported you when the rest of the country was against you; why should you attack him?” Gachagua posed.

Speaking in Mombasa on Monday during the launch of the Universal Health Coverage (UHC), the president also, indirectly, decried that the DP and his allies have taken to the streets to claim ownership of some government projects while at the same time criticising his administration.

“We have seen some people claiming that they did this and on the other hand they are claiming that the government has done nothing. Work is not done on top of cars; it’s done in the offices and hospitals,” Uhuru said.
