Wavinya Ndeti urges investigation into rising murder cases in Machakos

By , June 19, 2026

Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has called on security agencies to thoroughly investigate a surge in homicides in the county following a series of violent incidents that have left residents concerned about safety.

Speaking on June 19, 2026, Ndeti expressed her sorrow over the incidents affecting different parts of the county. She cited several cases, including the killing of three young men in Machakos town, the death of County ICT Officer Alphonce Matee whose body was found in Kyumbi, and other bodies discovered in Matungulu and Kathiani.

“As a mother and governor, I am deeply saddened by the rising cases of homicide within the county,” she stated.

She sent condolences to affected families and urged calm as investigations continue.

“I convey my heartfelt condolences to the families, friends, and colleagues of all those who have lost their lives during these tragic circumstances,” she said.

Ndeti further urged security agencies to act decisively and ensure those responsible are brought to justice while reaffirming the county government’s cooperation with law enforcement.

Demand for justice

The governor’s remarks come amid public outrage over the mob killing of three young men identified as Kennedy Mutiso (29), Stanley Mutungu (22), and Charles Mutiso (25).

Relatives said the trio were attacked after watching the UEFA Champions League final between Arsenal and PSG in late May. According to family accounts, the incident began after one of the men was allegedly hit by a vehicle, leading to a confrontation with the driver, who later called for reinforcement from boda boda riders.

A crowd gathered and the situation escalated into violence. The three men were beaten and later set on fire, sustaining severe burn injuries covering most of their bodies.

Charles’ mother, who had travelled from Kiambu, described the incident and demanded justice for her son. “What I demand is justice for these boys,” she said.

The bodies were later taken to Machakos Hospital mortuary after being recovered by police.

Security concerns

Post-mortem examinations confirmed that the victims died from extensive burn injuries. Their bodies remained at the mortuary for several days as families searched for their loved ones.

Residents have expressed concern over rising cases of mob justice and insecurity in the county, with calls for faster investigations and accountability from authorities.

Authorities have not yet provided detailed updates on arrests or progress in the investigations. Families continue to demand justice, saying they are waiting for answers on the circumstances surrounding the killings.

This comes days after Nairobi Women Representative aspirant Millicent Omanga raised alarm over rising insecurity affecting women and children across the country, warning that families are living in fear amid increasing cases of violence and disappearances.

In a post on her official X account on Sunday, May 24, 2026, Omanga said children were disappearing, women were being killed, and families were living in fear, while questioning the silence of some leaders on the matter.

She asked where Members of Parliament and women leaders were as cases of gender-based violence continued to rise, insisting that Parliament should take stronger action, and added that a government that cannot protect women and children is failing its people.

Governor Ndeti has reiterated the need for coordinated efforts between the county government, security agencies, and residents to restore safety and prevent further violence in Machakos County.
