Wavinya Ndeti to Ruto: Ukambani is locked

By , December 20, 2025

Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has spelt doom for President Ruto’s quest to earn the support of the Ukambani region, which she holds remains firmly under Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka.

Speaking in Mlolongo on Saturday, December 20, 2025, Ndeti faulted Ruto for relying on politicians she said hold no meaningful influence in his bid to make inroads in the region.

She stated that the majority of Ruto’s point men in the region lacked political clout and were only there to eat from the government.

Dont waste money on them

“I want to tell Ruto that he should not depend on the people he has around him to gain the support of the people of Ukambani. Most of them are only around him to eat, and I would advise him to stop wasting his money on them,” she stated.

Wooing Kalonzo

The governor wished Ruto the best in his effort to try to woo Kalonzo to his camp, stressing that Kalonzo remains rooted in the same ambition of leading Kenya as Ruto.

“If you want to get into Ukambani, look for our leader, Kalonzo Musyoka, but unfortunately, he has decided to be the sixth president of Kenya,” she remarked.

Her remarks come after Ruto appears to have opted for a change of strategy after months of trying to win over the United Democratic Alliance opposition principals ahead of the 2027 elections.

Ruto has, through proxies, spent considerable time and effort trying to bring Kalonzo to his side, with his deputy Kithure Kindiki among the leaders publicly extending an olive branch to the former vice president.

However, with his overtures rebuffed and a political shift appearing unlikely, Ruto seems to have now opened a political warpath, if his recent stern attack on Kalonzo is anything to go by.

On a new warpath?

The president on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, roasted Kalonzo Musyoka for attempting to deny him credit for the construction of the Kibwezi–Maua road.

He dismissed claims by the Wiper Party leader, asserting that the project was carried out during the Jubilee administration after 2013.

“He is claiming that he launched the road from Kibwezi to Mbondoni. I want to tell him to look for fools; there are no fools in Kenya anymore,” Ruto said. “That road was not built by him. It was built by Uhuru and me when we took over the government, and we have the facts.” Ruto said in his response.

Ruto went on to dismiss Kalonzo’s record of development,, stating that the politician achieved nothing meaningful during his 50-year tenure in leadership.
