Wamuchomba condemns attack on children in Kariobangi church teargas incident
Githunguri Member of Parliament (MP) Gathoni Wamuchomba has condemned an attack on children and congregants as police lobbed teargas in PCEA Kariobangi North Church on Sunday, November 30, 2025.
The police attacked worshippers at the sanctuary during a thanksgiving service organised to celebrate the victory of David Warui, the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) candidate who won the Kariobangi North Member of County Assembly (MCA) seat in the Thursday, November 27, 2025, by-election.
The service was attended by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who took the opportunity to address the congregants, expressing gratitude for their vote for Warui.
Following the teargas incident, Gathoni Wamuchomba has condemned the excessive force against the minors, describing it as a desecration of the church, before demanding a public apology from President William Ruto.
Desecration of the church
”Throwing teargas in church on Sunday is a desecration of the Church. This is evil and attracts the wrath of God. The President of Kenya should apologise not to the political leaders but to the Church and to God,” Wamuchomba took to X on Sunday night, November 30, 2025.
Further, Wamuchomba has argued that the Sunday incident could be a precursor of a detour from democracy and a recipe for anarchy ahead of the 2027 general election.

”Going by the recent happenings, 2027 elections might take a detour from democracy to anarchy. We can only stop these excesses by respecting the Rule of Law. The country is slowly becoming a military state . I condemn the attacks on innocent children and worshippers in Pcea Kariobangi. May those injured recover quickly and get justice. Stop violence against children,” Wamuchomba added.
On his part, Rigathi Gachagua termed the unfolding as unfortunate and disturbing, risking turning Kenya into a militia country where women, children and churches have become President Ruto’s key targets of lethal attacks.
Gachagua roars
”For the record, Mr William Ruto, sending goons and police to attack us at the PCEA church, Kariobangi North, today, to punish the people of Kariobangi North for rejecting your UDA Candidate shows how desperate you are. Today, your police and goons opened fire and shot two DCP supporters who are now nursing serious gunshot wounds,” Gachagua took to his social media pages.

”Directing police to throw tear gas in church to harm the clergy, women and children is the lowest a leader can go. You have desecrated the Altar and defiled a Holy Place, and for sure God will punish you. Much as I appreciate your frustrations, the more you send goons and police to attack the public and their leaders, the more you harden their resolve against your unpopular leadership.” Rigathi Gachagua added.
