Githunguri Member of Parliament Gathoni Wamuchomba has attacked the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua, accusing him of entrenched misogyny and a consistent pattern of hostility toward women in leadership and public life.

Taking her frustrations to X on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, Wamuchomba described Gachagua as a hater of women, citing several incidents she says demonstrate his contempt for female leaders. This comes shortly after Wamuchomba accused Gachagua of using intimidation to try and woo her to join the DCP political outfit.

She referenced a recent funeral in Kigumo, where Lamu Woman Representative Monica Muthoni was heckled and verbally attacked by Gachagua’s supporters after expressing her views. According to Wamuchomba, Gachagua neither intervened nor condemned the incident.

Instead, she claims he went on to suggest in his speech that Muthoni deserved the hostility she faced, an assertion that has fueled further criticism of his leadership style and tolerance of political intimidation against women.

She also pointed to his impeachment period, during which two women Members of Parliament publicly claimed he verbally attacked them using language so offensive it was recorded in the parliamentary Hansard.

Wamunyoro is misogynistic. ( Hater of Women ). During his impeachment, there were two women MPs who publicly claimed that he verbally attacked them using unprintable words. (Refer to Parliamentary Hansard),” Wamuchomba said.

Gachagua’s repeated actions

The Githunguri legislator argued that this was not an isolated incident but part of a broader pattern. She accused Gachagua of repeatedly verbally attacking prominent female leaders, including governors Anne Waiguru (Kirinyaga), Susan Kihika (Nakuru), and Cecily Mbarire (Embu).

Wamuchomba singled out the Mbeere North by-election as a defining moment, claiming that Gachagua’s sustained verbal assaults on Governor Mbarire galvanised women voters.

According to her, women across the region rallied together and voted for Leo Wamuthende as a protest and a show of solidarity with their governor, an outcome she described as a political humiliation for Gachagua.

”During the Mbeere North by-elections, he abused Gov Mbarire severally; the women collectively ganged to elect Hon Wamuthende in defence of their Governor and as a protest vote. He was deflated like a puff adder!” She said.

Looking ahead, Wamuchomba argued that women represent the most potent political counterforce to what she termed Gachagua’s “verbal venom.” She also sought to puncture what she described as false political branding around Gachagua’s current party affiliations. According to Wamuchomba, the so-called “Maskio party” is not a Mt Kenya or “Mlima” political vehicle as portrayed, but is instead owned by DCP Deputy Party Leader Cleophas Malala and Hezron Obaga.
