Democratic Action Party (DAP-K) party leader Eugene Wamalwa has announced that he will be hosting the United Opposition for a tour around the region next week.

He made this announcement during a funeral service in Navakholo on Friday, May 29, 2026, where he urged locals to warm up for the grand rally, which he said will sweep across the region.

“Even as we prepare to host the United Alternative Government team in Western Kenya in the coming weeks, we remain committed to uniting with all like-minded political leaders and outfits to front one presidential candidate who will face William Ruto on the ballot, defeat him decisively, and make him a WANTAM president.”

The rally was slated to take place in April but was postponed to a later date.

Mulembe politics

This comes at a time when the Mulembe region is being viewed as a key battleground in the next election, where both the United Opposition and the broad-based government appear to enjoy an equal share of support.

Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, who has been positioning himself as the political kingpin of the region and the one who will give the community direction in 2027, has warned locals against voting for anyone who is pro-government.

He also stated that they should not allow last-minute defections, adding that there is no way people can dine with the oppressor and expect to defect to the side of the people and still be voted in.

He further announced that the region’s political direction will be declared during the burial of the father of former Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati, which will take place in Khachonge, Kabuchai Constituency, on Saturday, May 30, 2026. He said this will be the day they spell doom for their counterparts aligned with the state and that their political careers will be buried alongside the person being interred.

Sifuna factor

On the other hand, Kabuchai MP Majimbo Kalasinga and his Bumula counterpart Jack Wamboka, allies of Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, have also warned the region that anyone who does not align with the embattled Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General will not be elected; according to them, the whole is behind Edwin Sifuna.

Western broad-based MPs’ demands

On the other side, leaders in support of the current regime, led by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, and Co-operatives Cabinet Secretary Wycliffe Oparanya, held a meeting in Naivasha demanding that their bare minimum for supporting President William Ruto’s re-election would be the deputy president slot.

They stated that the region has enough numbers necessary for them to be given the running mate position.

On the opposition side, Edwin Sifuna, together with Natembeya and Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale, have also been holding indoor meetings in order to craft ways in which they will counter the broad-based government in the region.
