Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) leader Eugene Wamalwa has stated that a time is coming when the united opposition will seek the support of retired President Uhuru Kenyatta.

While speaking during an interview on Herman Manyora’s podcast aired on Friday, May 15, 2026, the outspoken leader heaped praise on the fourth president, saying that Uhuru Kenyatta has a big sway when it comes to politics, and nobody can underrate him.

He further added that when it comes to resources, Uhuru also has a lot of influence.

Wamalwa continued by stating that the united opposition will seek his support in their bid to make the current regime a “wanton” government. Eugene further contended that should they seek his support, they would do it with clear intentions and policies.

“Uhuru Kenyatta still has a lot of sway; you can’t underestimate him. Secondly, he is a man of great resources; you also can’t underestimate him. We, as the united alternative govt, will be seeking his support, but with very clear policies.”

Uhuru’s political moves

This comes at a time when Uhuru Kenyatta appears to be leaning towards the united opposition. In November, after a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the Jubilee Party, which endorsed Fred Matiang’i to be the flagbearer of the party.

The meeting also greenlighted him to be the link between the party and the united opposition.

For the recent past, the United Alternative Government has been out defending the fourth president from attacks directed at him by the state over his involvement in politics.

United opposition bigwigs led by Rigathi Gachagua, the leader of the Democracy for Citizens Party, have vowed that they will defend Uhuru Kenyatta since he is the de facto leader of the Mt Kenya region.

Gachagua has assured him that should the government continue with its push to scrap his retirement benefits, when the opposition takes over power, they will begin by reinstating his benefits and dignity, which they claim have been deprived by the current regime.

Rigathi Gachagua has also stated that when it reaches a point where he is under a lot of pressure, he may seek the help of Uhuru Kenyatta in shaping the politics of the Mount Kenya region. However, according to “Riggy G”, they currently do not want to involve the retired president in too many political activities and instead allow him to enjoy his retirement.

Sifuna defends Uhuru

The Linda Mwananchi team, led by Edwin Sifuna, who has been accused of being bankrolled by Uhuru, has also come out to defend the Jubilee Party leader against the ongoing onslaught from the state.

Edwin Sifuna recently denounced the motion by his Nandi counterpart, Samson Cherargei, saying that it is dead on arrival since the retirement packages of a former president are entrenched in the Constitution and would require a referendum to be scrapped.

He also distanced himself from claims that his movement’s political activities are being bankrolled by the state.
