Wamalwa: Govt’s efforts to curb ‘Wantam’ surge have failed

By , August 28, 2025

DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa has stated that rival political camps are struggling to contain growing opposition momentum as the country gears up for the 2027 general elections. Posting on his official X account on Thursday, August 28, 2025, Wamalwa asserted that efforts by opposing groups to curb rising support have been frantic and largely ineffective.

“TEAM #WANTAM has gotten TEAM #TUTAM out of their comfort zone running halter skelter across the Country shouting their TUTAM slogan even in the State House and dishing out millions in handouts to try and tame the #WANTAM tide, but the die is cast!” Wamalwa posted, emphasising his confidence in the opposition’s growing influence.

Wamalwa’s comments come a day after he joined a high-level strategy meeting with senior political figures, including Martha Karua, Mithika Linturi, and Mukhisa Kituyi. Other attendees included Rigathi Gachagua, Fred Matiang’i, JB Muturi, Saitoti Torome, and Kalonzo Musyoka. The meeting, held behind closed doors, focused on consolidating support, mapping out regional strategies, and ensuring the opposition is well-positioned for the 2027 elections.

The gathering is seen as part of a broader effort to strengthen alliances and coordinate campaign activities across key constituencies. Political analysts note that such meetings provide a platform for sharing insights, mobilising grassroots support, and addressing emerging challenges within opposition ranks.

Rising opposition momentum

Wamalwa’s post reflects growing confidence among opposition leaders, suggesting that their strategies are gaining traction and creating unease within the ruling camp. By highlighting the alleged frantic measures of rival groups, including large-scale handouts and public slogan campaigns, Wamalwa signalled that the opposition is undeterred and poised to expand its influence nationwide.

The post also underscores the political narrative that the opposition is strategically organised and prepared to challenge the status quo. Analysts say the remarks are likely intended to rally supporters, boost morale, and portray the opposition as disciplined and decisive in contrast to perceived disarray among rival factions.

As the 2027 elections approach, Wamalwa and fellow opposition leaders are expected to continue mobilising support, refining campaign strategies, and ensuring their message resonates with voters across all regions. The political landscape is shaping up to be highly competitive, with both sides deploying extensive outreach and strategic manoeuvres to secure voter loyalty.
