Wamalwa appeals to Salasya and Natembeya as divisions rock DAP-K
By Arnold Ngure, August 1, 2025Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) leader Eugene Wamalwa has appealed to Trans-Nzoia Governor George Natembeya and Mumias East MP Peter Salasya amid a battle for the soul of the party.
In a statement on Friday, August 1, 2025, Wamalwa appealed to Natembeya and Salasya that they do not have to leave DAP-K or perform a forceful takeover to achieve their political aspirations
“My brother Peter Salasya, both you and my brother George Natembeya do not have to leave or cause a coup in our Party DAP-K in order to become Party leaders or presidential candidates,” Wamalwa said.
Face off in nominations
Wamalwa has challenged Salasya and Natembeya to go against him during nominations at the party level, noting that theirs is a democratic party.

“You are welcome to face me for the Presidential ticket in free and fair nominations as ours is truly a Democratic Party that can allow us all to realize our political aspirations through internal democracy without wrecking our Party or washing our dirty linen in public,” Wamalwa stated.
The remarks come just hours after Salasya decried what he termed a calculated move by Natembeya to take over the leadership of DAP-K.
Battle for soul of DAP-K
“Eugene Wamalwa is my party leader. Governor George Natembeya is a goon who wants to take over the party forcefully,” Salasya said in a Facebook post
“I will not betray Eugene Wamalwa at this hour. People didn’t come to DAP-K because of NEC members; they came because of the Eugene Wamalwa brand.”

Salasya’s remarks came after Natembeya, on July 29, 2025, vowed to transform DAP-K into a party with a national appeal.
“The small murmurs you are hearing are from DAP-K are about those who are conservative and those who want to be liberal and want to rebrand the party so that it is not only for Western Kenya, so that we have other voices. Politics is not about Western Kenya,” Natembeya said.
“That is the challenge that we have. Others are against opening the doors for other Kenyans to expand DAP-K, because we know it has potential.”
