Wamalwa accuses govt of using state-backed goons to discredit protests
By Faith Lagat, June 26, 2025Democratic Action Party (DAP-K) leader Eugene Wamalwa has accused the government of using state-sponsored goons to discredit ongoing protests, citing a coordinated effort to loot businesses and tarnish the legitimacy of Gen Z-led demonstrations.
Wamalwa, a key figure in the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Coalition, made the explosive claims via his official X on Thursday, June 26, 2025. He cited the looting of QuickMart OTC and other establishments in Nairobi, reportedly under police watch, as evidence of government complicity.
“Using goons to loot and create political perceptions is not only hurting hard-working entrepreneurs but also goes against the expectations of any government,” Wamalwa posted, describing the move as “backward politics that can’t work in modern democracies.”
Wamalwa’s claims, supported by images of hospital visits and a press conference, noted that the government is using goons to discredit Gen Z protests, which have called for reforms in the current regime.

The remarks come in the wake of deadly protests marking the anniversary of the June 2024 anti-tax demonstrations that brought up a one-year commemoration and that saw a number of people killed and injured during this week’s clashes between protesters and police across major cities.
He also wrote that the rogue regime has resorted to using state goons to loot and create a smear campaign against legitimate demands by Kenyans and Gen Zs.
“The rogue regime has resorted to using state goons to loot and create a smear campaign against legitimate demands by Kenyans and Gen Zs,” he posed.
Medical associations and rights groups have raised alarm over gunshot injuries and alleged police brutality.
However, Kipchumba Murkomen, in a statement, has revealed that about three hundred police officers were injured during protests commemorating victims of the June 2024 anti-government demonstrations.
Speaking at a press conference in Nairobi on June 26, 2025, Murkomen announced that more than 400 people had been injured in the protests.
According to Murkomen, at least ten Kenyans died during the June 25, 2025, protests, and the government is conducting investigations into the circumstances of their untimely deaths.
“More than 10 Kenyans were killed; investigations are ongoing into the circumstances under which this happened. Over 400 people were injured; close to 300 were police officers, and some left with injuries they will carry for the rest of their lives,” he stated.
Murkomen also revealed that goons who infiltrated the protest targeted key government installations such as police stations, looking for armouries and police uniforms at various police stations in the country.
“The criminals are after guns in the armouries and police uniforms. Five firearms were stolen from Dagoretti Police Post, Kiambu County, while four were burnt at Gachui Police Post,” he lamented.
As pressure mounts, the government has yet to issue an official response. However, the growing chorus of opposition voices, civil society demands, and international scrutiny suggest that the road ahead remains tense and uncertain.
