Wamae slams misconceptions about Ruto reaching out to 2022 opponents
By Kiprono Keileb, October 16, 2025Former Roots Party presidential running mate Justina Wamae has dismissed claims that President William Ruto is reaching out to his 2022 election opponents to “work together.”
In a statement shared on her X account on Thursday, October 16, 2025, Wamae said such narratives misrepresent the president’s intentions. “Anybody saying that the President is reaching out to his 2022 opponents in order to WORK together should know that even a housefly works, very HARD for that matter,” Wamae said.
Wamae further clarified what she sees as the real context behind the engagements between the president and former opponents, emphasising the tangible benefits often associated with such arrangements. “Remember that part of ‘working’ together includes that person getting a state job which comes with large perks and a salary which will directly benefit their wives and kids,” she added.

She concluded her statement by addressing ordinary citizens, pointing out that the outreach efforts do not directly involve them. “Wewe MKenya unahusika aje?” Wamae asked, reinforcing her point that the political negotiations are largely confined to elite circles and benefit structures within government.
Wamae’s comments come amid widespread discussions on social media and political circles about the president’s approach to engaging with former competitors from the 2022 elections. For many outreach is aimed at consolidating political alliances and ensuring smoother governance; however, some argue that it may create perceptions of favouritism and elite bargaining.
By speaking out, Wamae sought to provide clarity and challenge misconceptions, framing the president’s interactions in a practical light and reminding Kenyans that the “working together” often referenced does not necessarily equate to shared policy-making or citizen-level collaboration.
