Wamae cautions against risks of pre-election coalitions
Former Roots Party running mate Justina Wamae has shared her thoughts on why Kenyans should support post-election pacts over pre-election agreements, like the one proposed by the United Opposition coalition
In a statement on her X page on Saturday, August 23, 2025, the politician asserted that the history of pre-election pacts in the country is marred by instances of squabbles and betrayals.
Wamae insists that Kenyans should be allowed to exercise and sample the best crop of leaders based on the manifesto they subscribe to.
Pre-election coalition
“A united opposition is akin to shielding a toddler from cutting their teeth because the process is painful and uncomfortable. Let everyone who qualifies to vie for the presidency vie without forcing people into unnecessary PRE-election coalitions. Kenyans should vote overwhelmingly for the best manifesto (they should be allowed to make mistakes). lest we take the country back to the KIBAKI-RAILA squabbles that almost paralyzed the country as someone felt used and promises were broken.
She further states that the approach, even if unpopular in terms of unseating an incumbent president, remains crucial in initiating coalition talks that are issue-based and not just about personalities.
In cases of runoff
“Better still, a RUNOFF will bring the much-needed respect required in POST-election coalitions, as each party will negotiate on the basis of the votes they got in addition to their ideology and manifesto as opposed to PRINCIPALS being at the mercy of a certain figurehead,” she added.

While referencing the current fixation with getting the incumbent out of power, Wamae further observed a visionary approach would address critical concepts about the future and the welfare of the nation.
“All this matrix in place, Kenyans will benefit from the real broad-based government with a rich mix of manifestos, plan and vision implemented, which is what the country needs for takeoff. This is beyond #RutoMustGo it is about GETTING THE JOB DONE with minimal mistakes.,” she stated.
