United Opposition leaders set for Mt Kenya tour after Ukambani visit
The United Opposition is now set to embark on a tour of the Mount Kenya region following a visit to Ukambani last weekend, where they were hosted by Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka.
The coalition’s next stop will be in Embu on Saturday, October 11, 2025, before proceeding to Kirinyaga County. In Embu, the team is expected to campaign for the Democratic Party candidate contesting the Mbeere North by-election, a seat left vacant after Geoffrey Ruku joined the Cabinet to replace his former party leader, Justin Muturi.

The Mt Kenya tour comes just a day after the opposition principals attended the Wiper Party National Delegates Conference (NDC) held at Uhuru Park on Friday, October 10, 2025. During the event, the leaders reaffirmed their commitment to unity as they gear up for the 2027 general elections.
Perceived fallout
The conference brought together key figures of the United Opposition amid speculation of internal rifts, particularly claims that former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi was being sidelined over his perceived closeness to the Jubilee faction.
The friction became more evident after former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua appeared to take a subtle jab at Matiang’i, saying that elections are won through direct engagement with the grassroots rather than holding meetings in boardrooms.

Matiang’i, who has been relatively quiet in recent weeks, has since dismissed claims of isolation. He urged coalition partners to remain united and to tolerate one another’s differences in pursuit of their shared goal of unseating President William Ruto in 2027. He also pledged his support for whichever candidate the opposition would agree upon as the most suitable presidential flagbearer.
“When we sit together and the united opposition declares that Kalonzo will be the candidate, I will support you. We will support you,” Matiangi said.
Other coalition leaders echoed similar sentiments, emphasising the importance of solidarity and collective focus as they move closer to the next election cycle. The NDC culminated with the endorsement of Kalonzo Musyoka as the Wiper Party’s presidential candidate, a decision that was unanimously accepted by delegates and leaders in attendance.
