Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has announced that the United Democratic Alliance party (UDA) will hold grassroots elections in 18 counties to strengthen internal party structures.

In a statement shared on X on Thursday, March 12, 2026, Kindiki said the elections are expected to allow members at the local level to choose leaders who will represent them within the party’s grassroots structures.

“The election of grassroots officials of The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party proceeds on Saturday, March 14, 2026, across 18 Counties,” Kindiki said in a statement.

Kindiki explained that the elections will take place in several counties where party members will participate in choosing officials who will serve in different polling centers. The process is expected to involve party members from various communities who will vote for leaders they believe can represent them effectively at the grassroots level.

“Party members in Samburu, Trans Nzioa, Vihiga, Elgeyo Marakwet, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Nandi, Kericho, Bomet, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Meru, Tharaka Nithi, Embu, Kirinyaga, Nyeri, Muranga and Kiambu Counties, will decide who the party leaders in each polling centre will be,” part of the Deputy President’s statement reads.

The Deputy President noted that the grassroots elections form part of the party’s plan to strengthen internal democracy and ensure that leaders who represent the party at different levels have the support and legitimacy of its members.

“UDA remains committed to deepening internal democracy to enhance the legitimacy of those who speak on behalf of the party at all levels, in line with our ideology of bottom up economic empowerment of the people,” he wrote.

Kindiki also revealed that preparations for the upcoming elections have been reviewed by the party leadership to ensure the exercise proceeds smoothly. He said the party had convened a meeting to assess readiness and ensure proper coordination before the elections take place.

“On behalf of the Party Leader, President William Ruto, chaired the Grassroots Elections Preparedness Status Update Meeting, Party Headquarters, Hustler Plaza, Nairobi.”

The Deputy President said the grassroots election is an important step for the party as it continues to strengthen its structures across the country. He further stated that the exercise will help build stronger local leadership and ensure that members have a direct role in choosing the people who will represent them within the party’s decision-making processes.
