“Pursuant to the directive issued by the Election and Nomination Dispute Resolution Committee, notice is hereby given to all relevant stakeholders, that the UDA National Elections Board shall conduct repeat elections in Kasarani Constituency for the following wards: Mwiki Ward (all elective positions) and Clay City Ward (all elective positions),” the notice read in part.

The National Elections Board chairman further stated that the repeat polls will be conducted on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at Hustler Centre.

“All concerned parties are hereby informed to take due notice and govern themselves accordingly,” Mwaura insisted.

On Friday May 24, 2024, UDA also announced repeat polls in various centers across the country. Among areas included in the notice were Nairobi, Busia and West Pokot County.

The holding of repeat polls follows recent grassroots elections that were held across different counties. The positions up for grabs in the polls include Chairperson and Deputy Chairperson (each of opposite gender), Secretary and Deputy Secretary (each of opposite gender), treasurer and organizing Secretary.

A representative of Youth, Women, persons with disabilities (PWDs), MSMEs, farmers, religious groups and professionals were among the other positions which were up for grabs.

While announcing the polls, UDA insisted that the process was going to be fair and credible.

“Note that elected or nominated MCAs must contest for the ward positions and are not automatic officials,” UDA announced.

The elections were held amidst a political attack from the opposition led by the Orange Democratic Movement. On April 26, 2024, Raila Odinga led party called off grassroots polls due to heavy rainfall.

ODM’s National Election Coordination Committee (NECC) chairperson Emily Awiti postponed the polls in Busia, Siaya, Kajiado and Wajir.

“Large sections of the respective counties are experiencing floods and related challenges occasioned by ongoing heavy rains,” Awiti stated.

“Having reviewed the ground situation and assessed the requests, the NECC wishes to announce that the elections scheduled for April 27, 29 and 30, 2024 are temporarily postponed. These will resume as soon as the situation has improved, ” she added.
