Tribunal sets March 12 for Sifuna’s challenge to ODM Secretary General removal
The Political Parties Disputes Tribunal (PPDT) has scheduled March 12, 2026, for the hearing of Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna’s case challenging his removal as Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General.
The Tribunal, on Thursday, February 26, 2026, also directed ODM to file and serve their authority to swear, together with transcripts, within three days.
Further, the Tribunal, through acting PPDT Chairperson Gad Gathu, has directed Sifuna to file and serve his submissions within seven days.
“The respondent will have seven days from the date of service to file and serve their submissions; then the hearing, by way of highlighting oral submissions, will be held on March 12, 2026, at 10 am,” the acting PPDT Chairperson directed.
The Tribunal heard that ODM has supplied a hard copy of recordings that they will be relaying to the registry.
However, the party informed the Tribunal that the recordings are not accompanied by transcripts.
Further, they told the Tribunal that they have filed a certificate and will also provide copies of the digital evidence to the registry with their filings.
In addition, they informed the Tribunal that they do not have a video but will be providing transcripts, screenshots, and screen grabs from media.
The PPDT, on February 12, 2026, temporarily barred the ODM NEC from executing a resolution removing Sifuna as the party’s Secretary General.
Further, the Tribunal also restrained the party from publishing in the Kenya Gazette the NEC resolution to remove Edwin Sifuna as the party’s Secretary General.
In his application, Sifuna argues that the resolution was made without his removal being included as an agenda item of the meeting, adding that he was not notified of any complaint against him.
Further, he states that the party did not issue him with any notice to show cause or give him an opportunity to defend himself against the alleged misconduct.
Sifuna also argues that ODM moved swiftly to appoint his Deputy Secretary General as Acting Secretary General and set a date for a National Delegates Convention.
“The ODM NEC’s resolution was made in breach of the provisions of Article 74 of the ODM Constitution, Section 4 of the Fair Administrative Action Act, Cap 7L Laws of Kenya, and Article 47 of the Constitution,” Sifuna adds.
The ODM National Executive Committee (NEC) removed Sifuna as the party’s Secretary General on February 11, 2026.
