Trans Nzoia MCA: There are no plans to impeach Natembeya
Sikhendu Member of the Trans Nzoia County Assembly, Andrew Kutilila, has stated that there are no plans by MCAs to impeach Governor George Natembeya.
Speaking in his ward on Monday, January 5, 2025, Kutilila accused Kiminini MP Kakai Bisau and Trans Nzoia Senator Allan Chesang of misusing a recent meeting between President William Ruto and leaders from Trans Nzoia County.
He said that instead of using the meeting to raise development issues affecting residents, the two leaders chose to push for discussions on the impeachment of Governor Natembeya.

Kutilila explained that the President had convened the meeting to engage MCAs on development matters concerning Trans Nzoia County, but claimed that Bisau and Chesang diverted the agenda by focusing on the governor.
He dismissed claims that MCAs are planning to impeach Natembeya, stating that those expecting such a move would have to wait much longer.
“President alikuwa ameita mcas wote wa transnzoia tuongee mambo ya development ya transnzoia alafu watu wawili kakai bisau na allan chesang waannanza kuongelea gpovernor wetu, Watu wanadhani mcas wataimpeach natembeya watangoja zaidi” kutilila stated
He further slammed the two leaders for persistently criticising Natembeya over his opposition stance, arguing that they should instead be championing development projects for their constituents rather than engaging in political attacks against the governor.
Kutilila noted that while they frequently meet the president, they fail to present tangible development priorities and instead focus on discussing Natembeya and possible impeachment plans.
“Hao wanakaa na president kila wakati badala wamwambie tunataka hii nah ii wanaenda kuongelea natembeya, wanaenda kuongelea vile wataimpeach Natembeya,” kutilila said
Calls for Governor Natembeya’s impeachment have been circulating, particularly in the latter half of 2025, a period during which his political profile appeared to grow stronger across the country.
Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has been among the most vocal leaders pushing for Natembeya’s impeachment, accusing the governor of several issues.
Trans Nzoia 2027 Gubernatorial race
Amid these developments, several leaders have declared interest in the Trans Nzoia gubernatorial seat.
Former Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha, who unsuccessfully contested the Trans Nzoia Woman Representative seat on a Ford Kenya ticket, has announced her intention to vie for the governorship in 2027.

Nakhumicha, who currently serves as Kenya’s Special Envoy to London, stated that she will rely on her track record as Health Cabinet Secretary to convince voters that she is best suited to unseat Natembeya
Kiminini MP Kakai Bisau, who was elected on a Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) ticket and has been a consistent critic of Governor Natembeya, has also declared his bid for the Trans Nzoia governor seat.
Additionally, his predecessor Chris Wamalwa, who finished second in the 2022 gubernatorial race, has announced his intention to make a comeback and contest for the influential county seat.
