A section of leaders drawn from Kakamega County have defended Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya against his critics, who are now calling for his impeachment.

Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei and his Uasin Gishu counterpart Jackson Mandago had called for the impeachment of Natembeya, accusing him of promoting tribalism and division.

“Governor Natembeya should be impeached for stoking tribal animosity, promoting division, poor development, and facing corruption allegations. These are impeachable offenses under the Kenyan Constitution.

“He is unfit to serve as the Governor of Trans Nzoia County, but seems more suited to being a chief tribal mobilizer, championing divisive rhetoric,” Cherargei said.

Addressing the press, the leaders allied to the Democratic Action Party-Kenya (DAP-K), told off the senators over the impeachment sentiments, and rallied behind Natembeya noting that only the people of Trans Nzoia have the mandate to remove the governor from office.

In an attack aimed at the two, the leaders noted that the senators should be focused on delivering to the electorates, not pinpointing issues in other leaders’ governance.

While telling off the senators, they drummed up support for Natembeya affirming that he possesses the great quality to steer the Mulembe nation forward.

“Natembeya was elected by the people of Trans Nzoia, if he is not working for the people of trans Nzoia; they have the mandate to evict him, but you as a senator, who has very many core values you are supposed to be performing at the senate, you have no business telling MCAs to impeach Natembeya.

“He is our leader, we trust him. He has dignity, a man who is not a thief and has a vision for the Mulembe nation,” they said.

The leaders further asserted that Cherargei and his Uasin Gishu counterpart to focus on addressing thorny issues affecting Kenyans such as the Social Health Authority (SHA) inefficiency, and CBC among others.

“Natembeya has a voice, he is speaking what other leaders have not said for the last 25 years. We are standing with Natembeya.

Tunaambia Cherargei na Mandago, we have very strong issues wanafaa kua wanaongelea, the government system has failed; tell the president SHA is not working, tell him CBC is not functioning, tell him Kenyans are sleeping hungry because of the high taxes they have impounded on the people, wachana na Natembeya, we are going to support him and 2027, we will rally behind him,” they stated.
