Sudi to Alfred Mutai: Walk to the police station before they come for you
By Kenneth Mwenda, June 20, 2026Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi has told his Kuresoi North counterpart Alfred Mutai to surrender himself to police over violent clashes that broke out in Kuresoi North, Nakuru County, and left several people injured and property destroyed.
Sudi spoke on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at Njenga Karume Senior School in Molo Sub-county. He addressed residents and leaders a day after the violence that disrupted a youth and women empowerment event at Sirikwa Umoja Grounds in Nyota Ward.
He gave Mutai a direct warning to report to police before officers arrest him.
“Ile kitendo ilifanyika jana Kuresoi, tunataka tumwambie huyo mjumbe wa Kuresoi; ujipeleke mwenyewe police station,” Sudi said. He added: “Utashikwa upende usipende, utashtakiwa upende usipende, kwa sababu sisi tunataka tusimame na msimamo wa kusema hatutawai mwaga damu tena katika taifa la Kenya kwa sababu ya siasa.”
Police have already named Mutai a person of interest in the case. The National Police Service said clashes broke out during the empowerment event attended by political leaders, including supporters of Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika.
According to police, groups linked to Mutai and supporters of Governor Kihika clashed during the meeting. Three people suffered gunshot wounds, and a bus carrying tents and chairs was set on fire. Police also reported widespread destruction of property and chaos at the venue.
National Police Service spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga confirmed that officers have launched a manhunt for Mutai and others linked to the violence. He urged the MP to surrender at the nearest police station to assist with investigations.
“The Service is pursuing the prime suspect, Hon. Alfred Mutai, who is currently on the run,” police said in a statement. Officers also warned that no individual will be exempt from investigation, regardless of political status.
Sudi backed the police position and said leaders must take responsibility for political violence. He insisted that Kenya cannot allow bloodshed during political events.
He said leaders must focus on development instead of confrontation.

UDA internal rift deepens
The clashes in Kuresoi North have exposed growing political divisions within the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) in Nakuru County. Some leaders accuse outsiders of interfering in local politics, while others say internal rivalries have intensified ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Mutai and other Nakuru leaders have previously accused Sudi of bringing leaders from outside the county to influence local political support for Governor Kihika’s re-election bid. They claim the mobilisation efforts create tension among local communities.
In May 2026, Mutai said leaders from outside Nakuru were attempting to pressure local politicians into supporting the governor. He argued that residents should make independent political decisions without outside influence.
The violence in Kuresoi also drew strong reaction from Nakuru Senator Tabitha Karanja. She criticised the use of armed groups and political mobilisation that she said had turned development meetings into scenes of violence. She warned that rural communities want development, not conflict.
“Ni viongozi wagani wanatumiwa ati wawe magoons ati kuja kucodemn one of their MP, elected leader. Kwa sabau ule mmechagua ni Kuresoi North. Saa hii mtake msitake ni Mutai.”
Senator Karanja said residents in farming areas wake up early to work on small-scale farms and depend on better roads, markets, water, electricity, and schools. She criticised Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika and added that leaders should focus on service delivery instead of political competition that leads to violence.

She also questioned how county funds are used, saying that leaders ferried to the meetings spend about Ksh2 million on a helicopter. She pointed to Auditor General reports that show limited development outcomes despite large budgets. She said Nakuru County received about Ksh14.8 billion in revenue in 2025 and operated on a Ksh26 billion budget, yet residents still struggle with basic services.
“Na hiyo chopper unaona wamekuja nazo, zote zimekombolewa na pesa yetu. Na chopper moja siku moja ni two million. Agalieni hesabuni hizo chopper, na wako hapa for two days. Kwa hivo ata hao wabunge warudi kwao,” she said.
“Kwa hivo haiwezekani kama kuna MP ako na kichwa mzuri, kama kuna senator ako na kichwa mzuri anaweza kuwa hired na governor anajua ni pesa ya county ile Senator Keroche analia every day na watu wetu hawafanyiwi development”
