Soy Member of Parliament David Kiplagat has implored President William Ruto to strive to ensure the unity of the Orange Democratic Movement, a party he predicts will form a coalition pact with the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party in the 2027 elections.

Speaking to a local TV station on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, Kiplagat opined that the president was on course to secure a second term.

This comes after Ruto said that ODM will either form or be part of the next government.

Safeguarding ODM unity

He, however, acknowledged that Ruto’s success hinges on the outfit retaining ODM as a partner beyond their current partnership under the broad-based government arrangement.

“I believe from our framework, we are focusing on a winning formula. If there is something our president needs to hold together at any cost, it is the unity of the ODM party. We need to ensure the ODM party remains united,” he added.

Regarding a pre-2027 deal between UDA and ODM, Kiplagat stated that the pact will surely come to pass as the countdown to the next general elections continues.

“There will be another coalition between UDA and the ODM, and the president will contest on that ticket,” he stated.

Extending current partnership

“Ruto is one of the smartest politicians in the country. He knows how and when to make and broker political deals, and I believe we should not be worried. He will do the right thing when the time comes,” he added.

Kiplagat’s sentiments mirror those of Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei, who signaled a long-term political partnership between ODM and UDA that could stretch beyond 2027.

Cherargei further suggested that the partnership would evolve into a formal coalition that could form the government in 2027 and beyond.

“I can assure you UDA and ODM will work beyond 2027 to form a government for the second term of President William Ruto’s administration,” he said.

“No party is formed to be in opposition,” Cherargei stated, adding that ODM’s priority is to be in government or part of it. He dismissed criticism from leaders opposed to the pact.
