Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has announced that he will carry out a nationwide tally of people who subscribe to the ‘Sisi Ndio Sifuna’ slogan before he accepts the push from Kenyans to try for the top seat.

In an interview with an international TV outlet aired on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, the outspoken and embattled leader stated that he wants to get the total tally so that it can inform his next political move.

He continued to say that after tallying his supporters, they must first commit to registering as voters and turning up to vote on the election day.

He recounted the 2022 situation where President William Ruto won by a 200,000-vote margin against his competitor, something that, according to him, could not have happened if the 8 million registered voters who failed to turn up had exercised their democratic duty.

Ruto alishinda na kura 200000 pekee, and kumbuka, people who did not vote were 8 million,” Sifuna added.

According to Sifuna, what has informed him to take this direction is the fact that there have been political slogans in the past, just like his “Sisi Ndio Sifuna” catchphrase, that have been the talk of the town in recent times but have not translated into votes.

He added that, as leaders, their focus should be on investigating what led to that population failing to turn up to vote. Sifuna stated that it is only at that point that he will be convinced to take a shot at the presidency, as many Kenyans have been urging him to do.

Sifuna’s removal

This comes at a time whenEdwin Sifuna has been taking the political circles by storm, especially after his attempted ouster from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) secretary general position and his reinstatement by the Political Parties Dispute Tribunal (PPDT).

This saw him, along with other like-minded ODM rebels, form the Linda Mwanachi movement, which has been carrying out political rallies in different parts of the country, aiming to rival the Linda Ground faction within the ODM.

According to Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, who is an integral member of the Linda Mwananchi team, the current focus of the movement is to be the voice of the people and call out the excesses of the government. After achieving this, they will then sit down and decide who among them is fit to challenge Ruto in 2027.

Sifuna has also shown willingness to team up with the United Opposition, saying that he does not want to be part of vote-splitting claims since, according to him, for William Ruto to be defeated, there must be an overwhelming repudiation from Kenyans.

He added that the president must be defeated by a five-million-vote margin and that, for this to happen, they must approach it as a united force, since he and the United Opposition share a common agenda of making Ruto a one-term president.
