Sifuna reveals action taken after Kisii Linda Mwananchi attack
By Kenneth Mwenda, July 4, 2026Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has condemned the attack on his Linda Mwananchi convoy in Keumbu, Kisii County, saying political violence is undermining democratic space ahead of the 2027 elections.
Speaking on Saturday, July 4, 2026, during the burial of MP Wamboka’s brother in Bungoma, Sifuna described how his team was attacked while travelling from Kisii town towards Keroka after holding meetings earlier in the day.
He said the convoy had been welcomed in Kisii town where opposition leaders addressed residents and met community groups. However, trouble started in Keumbu, where, according to him, groups of people ambushed the vehicles and threw stones.
“Jambo la mwisho… sisi tunataka siasa ambazo watu wanapata fursa ya kueneza sera zao bila kuumizwa,” Sifuna told mourners. He stressed that no political side should be blocked from meeting citizens or forced into violent confrontation.
He added that he does not interfere with rival political meetings and expects the same respect in return.
“Hakuna siku utaniona kwa mkutano ya Kenya Kwanza ati naharibu mkutano. Wafanye mikutano yao, sisi tufanye mikutano yetu,” he said.
Sifuna praised local leaders in Kisii, including MPs and coordinators who helped organise the earlier meetings. He mentioned teamwork within the opposition network, saying it helped them reach residents in several parts of the county before the incident.
Among the leaders linked to the tour were James Orengo, Babu Owino, and former Chief Justice David Maraga, who joined the Linda Mwananchi engagements focused on governance and citizen outreach.

Action taken by Sifuna after the attack
Sifuna, however, raised concern over what he described as the involvement of security officers in the attack. He claimed that some police officers were part of the group that threw stones at the convoy.
“Na kitu ambacho kinanivunja moyo, nimeona kulikuwa na maafisa wa polisi kwa hiyo group ambao walikuwa wanatupigia mawe,” he said, calling for immediate investigations.
He also said he had sent video evidence to Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, including via phone message, but had not received a response at the time of his remarks.
“Nimemtumia rafiki yangu IG Kanja, hiyo kanda. Anajifanya hajasoma message yangu, nimemtumia mpaka kwa namba yake ya M-Pesa. Nataka ajue kwamba sisi kama upinzani, hatutakubali maandhari ambayo, ati kukiwa na mkutano wa kisiasa, mnapiga watu wengine.”
The senator called for accountability, saying those involved in the Keumbu incident must be identified and prosecuted. He warned that continued tolerance of political violence would damage public trust in security agencies and elections.
Sifuna further linked the attack to unnamed political actors in Kisii, claiming that a local Member of Parliament was involved.
“So tunataka wale ambao walihusika na hiyo kitendo pale Keumbu. Tunaambiwa ni mweshimiwa (a Kisii MP), na ni kijana mdogo, tunataka tuwache hizi siasa za fujo nyuma, ili tuweze kufanya siasa za sera, ili tuweze kuongea na wananchi wetu kwa amani.”
