Sifuna planning to unveil new political vehicle in March – Kasmuel McOure
Vocal political activist Kasmuel McOure has hinted that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General, Edwin Sifuna, is planning to unveil a new political party in March as cracks within the Orange party widen.
Taking to X on Friday, January 2, 2026, McOure also differed with the declaration of ODM on the party leader Oburu Odinga going for the presidency against President William Ruto should the political outfit decide to go solo in the 2027 general election.

Appeasing detractors

He said that there are facts within the troubled ODM that Sifuna needs to clarify based on his capacity amid bigwigs within the party washing dirty linens and trading barbs in public. He accused ODM of setting Oburu Odinga up for public ridicule by announcing his presidential candidature against Ruto.
”This is wrong reporting, deliberately framed to expose our Party Leader (@DrOburu_O) to public ridicule. The matter is constitutional, not personal. The ODM Party Constitution is clear, and Dr Oburu Oginga is merely restating its provisions. He is the Party’s Presidential candidate. These are the facts the Secretary General ought to clarify. Instead, Sifuna is preoccupied with appeasing our detractors, as his camp prepares to unveil a new political vehicle in March,” McOure said.
In a statement posted on X on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, Oburu emphasised that if ODM contests independently, the party leader will automatically be the presidential candidate.
“If we are going it alone, ODM already has a candidate as stated in the constitution of our party. It is the party leader, and it is the party leader speaking,” Oburu Odinga said.
He warned aspirants seeking the presidency under ODM to consider other parties, saying that the party’s internal rules cannot be bypassed.

Oburu for presidency
“So, anybody preparing themselves to go for presidential elections in ODM, I think they are misplaced. If they want to go for presidential candidacy, they should look for another party because the presidential candidate has already been decided by the party constitution,” he added.
However, Edwin Sifuna and Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi have vowed not to quit ODM even under the current pressure. Sifuna and Osotsi have been maintaining their firm stand against the current broad-based government formation between the Kenya Kwanza regime and the ODM party.
