Sifuna missing as Oburu convenes ODM Central Management Committee meeting
Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Oburu Oginga has convened a meeting of the ODM Central Management Committee in Vipingo, Kilifi County.
Taking to his official X account on Monday, January 12, 2026, Oburu said that he had convened the meeting in his capacity as the ODM party leader for a consultative discussion and engagement on emerging political and national issues.
“I convened a meeting of the ODM Central Management Committee in Vipingo, Kilifi, in my capacity as Party Leader, for a consultative discussion and engagement on emerging political and national issues,” Oburu stated.
Oburu further pointed out that the Orange party remains firmly committed to internal consultation, unity of purpose, and principled leadership.
“As the Orange Democratic Movement, we remain firmly committed to internal consultation, unity of purpose, and principled leadership. We continue to listen to our members and the Kenyan people as we collectively shape the Party’s direction in the period ahead,” he wrote on X.

Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga, who is the ODM national chairperson, also took to her official Facebook page to share photos from the session, noting that the meeting was underway.
“The Orange Democratic Movement Central Management Committee meeting underway in Vipingo, Kilifi, under the leadership of the Party Leader, Dr. Oburu Oginga, to deliberate on emerging political and national issues,” Wanga stated.

Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Sheriff Nassir also took to his official X account to share photos from the meeting, noting that the ODM Central Management Committee had met for a candid and forward-looking engagement on emerging political and national issues.
“I joined fellow members of the ODM Central Management Committee in Vipingo, Kilifi, under the leadership of Dr. Oburu Oginga, for a candid and forward-looking engagement on emerging political and national issues,” Governor Nassir stated.

The ODM Party also shared an update about the meeting and posted the photos of those in attendance on social media.
Sifuna not in the meeting
People Daily Digital has analysed the photos that have been shared and noticed that one key member of the ODM Central Management Committee, Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, is missing.
The ODM Central Management Committee is chaired by party leader Oburu Oginga, who was appointed following the death of Raila Odinga in October 2025.
Also missing from the meeting is Godfrey Osotsi, the Vihiga County Senator, who also serves as one of the ODM Deputy Party leaders.

ODM Central Management Committee members
The membership of the CMC, which is the party’s top decision-making organ for mediating internal disputes, consists of the party leader; Deputy Party Leaders Governor Abdulswamad Sheriff Nassir (Mombasa), Governor Simba Arati (Kisii), and Senator Godfrey Osotsi (Vihiga); the National Chairperson; the Secretary-General; and the National Assembly Minority Leader, who is Junet Mohamed.
Other members of the committee are the National Treasurer (Timothy Bosire), National Organising Secretary (Ahmed Abdullahi, Wajir Governor), Secretary for Political Affairs (Rosa Buyu, Kisumu West MP), National Assembly Minority Whip (Millie Odhiambo, Suba North MP), Director of Campaigns, ODM Women Leader and Youth Leader (senior representatives for these wings), Executive Director (Oduor Ong’wen), and appointed members (three members specially nominated by the party leader).
Sifuna ouster
Sifuna has been viewed as an ODM rebel, following his opposition to the broad-based government arrangement the Orange party entered with President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
The Nairobi Senator was recently engaged in a war of words with Junet, accusing him of squandering the funds meant for Raila’s agents during the 2022 general elections.

The spat intensified calls for Sifuna’s ouster, with Migori Senator Eddy Oketch filing a suit to have the ODM SG kicked out, only for him to withdraw later after Oburu’s intervention.
Oketch later urged Oburu Oginga to call the ODM party’s National Delegates Convention (NDC).
Taking to his official Facebook page on Thursday, January 8, 2026, Oketch said the convention should be called to resolve the ongoing wrangles within the party.
“Party leader, please call the NDC. We sort this once and for all,” Senator Oketch stated, referring to Sifuna’s meeting with senior ODM members, including Siaya Governor James Orengo and former Attorney General Amos Wako, aimed at ending the internal disputes.
Aside from Alai, other ODM members have championed the expulsion of Sifuna from the party.
In a statement shared on his X account on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, Homa Bay Town Member of Parliament Peter Kaluma urged ODM to strip Sifuna of his Senate leadership over what he terms as betrayal of the political outfit.
Kaluma compared Sifuna’s conduct with how the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) removed Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale from his Senate Majority Whip position after his conduct was deemed inappropriate during the November 2025 Malava by-election.
The legislator questioned why ODM would retain, in such a powerful position, an individual he labelled a “corrupt traitor” who, in his view, contributes nothing to the party’s agenda.
