Sifuna: Linda Mwananchi will hold grand rally at Tononoka after Ramadan
By Mabonga Makhanu, March 14, 2026Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has announced that his Linda Mwananchi movement will hold a grand rally at Tononoka Grounds in Mombasa after the Ramadan festivities.
While speaking during a church service in Ruai on Saturday, March 14, 2026, Sifuna made the announcement just days after the Sifuna-led Linda Mwananchi movement took a hiatus to allow the Ramadan period to be completed.
“We are scheduled as Linda Mwananchi to be in Tononoka after this Ramadan,” Sifuna said

During the service, which was specifically meant to install a bishop, the bishop recalled how a grand crusade he held at Tononoka Grounds in 1957, where a blind man was healed and had his sight restored.
Sifuna said he believes that even though they will be using the same grounds for political purposes, their Linda Mwananchi rally could also help open the eyes of those in authority to the realities that ordinary Kenyans are going through.
“We hope that the spirit that was there in 1957 that healed that blind man will open the eyes of these people,” Sifuna said.
Linda Mwananchi’s break
The Linda Mwananchi movement had taken a brief hiatus after their Kakamega rally, which attracted massive crowds of Kenyans who turned up to witness the political event.

According to Sifuna, the break was meant to allow them to restrategise, mobilise resources, and come up with a one-year roadmap that will guide them as they continue to popularise their political movement across the country.
Ahead of the Tononoka rally, Saboti MP Caleb Amisi recently announced that Nyali MP and Mombasa gubernatorial aspirant on a DCP ticket, Mohammed Ali, will officially be joining their movement.
The Linda Mwananchi faction emerged from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) after disagreements over the direction the party should take ahead of the 2027 general election.
The faction was formed by rebels within the party who opposed the leadership’s decision to support President William Ruto, a position associated with the rival Linda Ground faction led by Oburu Odinga.
Savula’s perspective

However, the movement has faced criticism from some leaders. Kakamega Deputy Governor Ayub Savula dismissed the Linda Mwananchi wave, describing it as a bushfire that begins with fury but is easily extinguished, arguing that the movement will eventually fizzle out.
On the other hand, Siaya Governor James Orengo, who is considered an integral member of the faction, dismissed such remarks, insisting that the Linda Mwananchi movement is like a tsunami that cannot be stopped, warning that anyone who attempts to stand in its way will be swept aside by the wave.
Political analyst Herman Manyora has also weighed in on the debate, praising Edwin Sifuna and saying that the current political moment favours him.
According to Manyora, there is currently no politician enjoying as much popularity as Sifuna, urging him to take advantage of the wave because opportunities of such magnitude rarely come twice in politics.
