Former Agriculture Minister Kipruto Arap Kirwa has advised the emerging group of young legislators led by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, Caleb Amisi, and Gathoni Wamuchomba to include the older generation in their quest for better governance and power in 2027.

Speaking on a local podcast on Friday, August 8, 2025, Kirwa noted that he has observed the rise of a political formation known as Kenya Moja, associated with Edwin Sifuna, Wamuchomba, Amisi, and possibly Babu Owino, considering his age bracket.

He encouraged them to press forward with their agenda but also to reflect, at the right time, on how far they can go without the involvement of seasoned leaders.

“My prayer is I want to encourage them, but at the right time, they ask themselves, ‘Where can we go without the rest?’ because I strongly believe any revolution is led by young people but also guided by seasoned people so that we could have a combination of young tags and old guards,” Arap Kirwa said.

According to Kirwa, any revolution is driven by young people but must be guided by experienced figures to achieve a balance between energy and wisdom.

He likened the older generation to brakes and the younger generation to the engine of change, stressing that a stable Kenya cannot be achieved if leadership is dominated solely by the old or the young.

Advice to young leaders

Kirwa expressed his appreciation for young leaders, stating that he would never frown upon their efforts.

He urged them to mobilise and secure their political constituency, drawing parallels to the events of 2002.

He specifically challenged Edwin Sifuna, Babu, and Senator Crystal Asige to boldly pursue power rather than wait for it to be handed to them.

He further stated that when the time comes, his generation will have to negotiate with these emerging leaders, noting that there is no reason why one of them could not become the Prime Cabinet Secretary or even a running mate.

“Sifuna, Babu Owino, go ahead and dare the unknown, and Senator Crystal Asige, don’t just wait for people to bring you power; go grab it. This team of my agemates and so on, we will have to negotiate with them. Who tells them that one of them can’t be Prime Cabinet Secretary or running mate?” he added.
