Sifuna hits out at ODM for disregarding its constitution in his ouster attempt
By Mustafa Juma, March 14, 2026Nairobi senator Edwin Sifuna has taken a swipe at leaders within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), accusing them of attempting to remove him from his position as secretary general without following the party’s constitution.
Speaking during the dedication of the cathedral and installation of the bishop’s office at the Pentecostal Evangelistic Fellowship of Africa (PEFA), Ruai, in Kasarani Constituency, Nairobi County, on Saturday, March 14, 2026, Sifuna praised the church for its adherence to constitutional procedures while installing new leadership, contrasting it with what he described as disorderly attempts by some individuals to push him out as ODM secretary-general.
“Vile mnajua mimi ni mkatoliki, lakini leo nimejivunza mambo fulani kutoka kwa kanisa ya PEFA. From the presentations that have been made here, we are very challenged with the sort of calibre of the leadership in this particular church,” Sifuna said.
Sifuna praises PEFA leadership
He noted that he was impressed by how the church followed its constitution during the installation of a new bishop, emphasising the importance of institutional procedures.
“Nimejifunza kuwa kanisa la PEFA linaheshimu katiba yake. Sio kufanya tu vitu kiholela, hivi hivi tu. Wakati wanainstall Bishop mpya, ni lazima katiba isomwe hapa,” he said.
According to Sifuna, the church’s secretary-general read out the constitutional provisions guiding the leadership installation process, ensuring that the exercise was conducted in a respectful and orderly manner.
“Nimesikia SG wao, katibu wao mkuu, ni PhD. Nakuja anasoma katiba. Anasema, ‘Pursuant to this article, tunakufanyia hii na hii, kwa njia ambayo ni ya heshima,” he added.

The senator used the moment to criticise the ODM faction allied to Oburu Odinga, whose officials he said had tried to remove him from his position in ODM without understanding or following the party’s constitutional procedures.
“Kuna wakora wengine walijaribu kunifurusha kama SG. Hata hawawezi kusoma katiba yao wenyewe wajue inasema aje kuhusu kumfurusha SG wao,” he said.
Resisting ouster attempts
Sifuna said he and his allies in the Linda Mwananchi faction of the Orange party would continue resisting such attempts and urged those involved to learn from the structured leadership processes he witnessed at the church.
“Tunapambana na hawa wakora na tunasema wajifunze kutoka kwa kanisa ya PEFA. Sio kufanya tu vitu kimalamala, mnachukuwa mtu mnamweka, mnamwambia sasa anza kusoma, wewe ndio SG, anaanza kujiita ‘Honourable Me‘,” he said.
He further praised the manner in which leaders were formally ushered into office at the church, saying the process demonstrated dignity and respect for institutional governance.
“Mmeona vile watu wanaingizwa kwa ofisi? Kwa njia ya ustaarabu, na ya kuheshimika,” he said.
Resumption of Linda Mwananchi rallies
Sifuna also used the opportunity to announce that his Linda Mwananchi movement will hold a grand rally at Tononoka Grounds in Mombasa after the Ramadan festivities.
He made the announcement just days after the Linda Mwananchi movement took a hiatus to allow the Ramadan period to be completed.
“We are scheduled as Linda Mwananchi to be in Tononoka after this Ramadan,” Sifuna said
