Sicily Kariuki withdraws from Nyandarua gubernatorial race to pave way for Kimemia
By Mathew.Ndungu, April 28, 2022Former Cabinet Secretary for Water, Sanitation and Irrigation Sicily Kariuki has finally bowed out of Nyandarua gubernatorial race to pave way for incumbent governor Francis Kimemia to fly the ruling Jubilee Party ticket.
Kariuki stated that she withdrew from the race after a lot of soul searching and numerous consultations with high-profile leaders and residents of Nyandarua.
“It’s been a lot of soul searching, consultation after another and I finally decided to sacrifice. Leadership is about sacrifice, you cannot lead people without sacrificing and dropping my bid does not in any way mean I have no power, I will take another action and will serve Nyandarua people at another level,” she said.
She said that for the seat to be clinched by the ruling party, she, out of sacrifice, decided to withdraw her ambitions ‘for a certain period’ and will now serve the Nyandarua people on another level.
Kariuki acclaimed Nyandarua voters for having supported her transformational course and urged them not to lose hope in her insisting that she was a woman of peace.
“I have only stepped aside for a moment. Please don’t be disappointed with me, we will work at another level,” Kariuki who was flanked by Jubilee Party secretary general Jeremiah Kioni and his Kieni counterpart Kanini Kega alongside other leaders said.
The former CS’s newest political move brought to an end longstanding speculation on which way the highly-coveted Jubilee Party ticket would go as she, alongside Kimemia, are political heavyweights.
The two have been embroiled in a simmering row to a point that Kimemia’s supporters had on last week camped at the party offices claiming that some Jubilee officials are opposed to him getting the nomination certificate.
They alleged that the delays and drama were deliberately stage-managed to deny the county boss the certificate.
