Senator Onyonka hails Edwin Sifuna’s brilliance as he marks 7 years as ODM SG
By Valerian Khakayi, February 23, 2025Kisii Senator Richard Onyanka has come out to praise his Nairobi counterpart Edwin Sifuna, acknowledging his brilliance and leadership as he celebrates seven successful years as the secretary-general (SG) of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
Taking to his official X account on Sunday, February 23, 2025, Onyanka pointed out that Sifuna is one of the few politicians who command respect due to his strong political understanding and unapologetic approach to addressing issues.
Highlighting his admiration for Sifuna’s straightforwardness, dedication, and vision, Onyonka noted that the ODM’s SG leadership is rooted in truth and vision, and even if you disagree with him, you can’t help but admire his brilliance.
In addition, the vocal senator added that Sifuna has a unique ability to see through the mess and call it out as it is.
“SG Edwin Sifuna is one of the very few politicians I have time for. His future is very bright. He sees it when it is messed up and calls it out as it is. You may disagree with him, but you can always listen to him and admire his level of brilliance,” Onyonka said.

Sifuna as ODM SG
Taking to his official X account, Sifuna disclosed that he is marking seven years since being appointed to serve in the party’s most prestigious position, and says it has been easy serving as ODM SG.
He further attributed his success at the Orange party to the blueprint left by the late Gerald Otieno Kajwang, stating that one only needs to follow Kajwang’s blueprint to the letter for him or her to succeed as ODM SG.
Sifuna was appointed as ODM’s SG after former sports CS Ababu Namwamba resigned in July 2016.
“Time does fly when you are having fun. It’s 7 years to the day today! It’s very easy to be SG of ODM. You just need to follow the blueprint left by Gerald Otieno Kajwang. Loyalty. Fidelity. Faithfulness. Easy as ABC,” Sifuna stated on Sunday, February 23, 2025.
