Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General (SG) and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has attributed his success at the Orange party to the blueprint left by the late Gerald Otieno Kajwang.

Kajwang, who was elected to represent the Mbita Constituency in the National Assembly in the December 2007 parliamentary election and subsequently elected to represent Homa Bay County in the Senate during the 2013 elections, always advocated for loyalty, fidelity, and faithfulness to the ODM party.

Sifuna on ODM SG role

Sifuna, who is marking seven years since being appointed to serve in the party’s most prestigious position, says it has been easy serving as ODM SG.

Taking to his official X account on Sunday, February 23, 2025, Sifuna stated that one only needs to follow Kajwang’s blueprint to the letter for him or her to succeed as ODM SG.

“Time does fly when you are having fun. It’s 7 years to the day today! It’s very easy to be SG of ODM. You just need to follow the blueprint left by Gerald Otieno Kajwang. Loyalty. Fidelity. Faithfulness. Easy as ABC,” Sifuna stated.

Sifuna was appointed to the position on February 23, 2018, taking over from Ababu Namwamba, who had resigned in July 2016.

ODM ouster threats

His remarks come just a day after Makadara MP George Aladwa accused Sifuna of working with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, warning that he could be kicked out of the ODM SG position soon.

Speaking on Saturday, February 22, Aladwa said Sifuna’s days in the ODM party are numbered, noting that he would be ejected like his predecessor Ababu Namwamba.

“Nataka kuwarn huyo Sifuna ambaye anajiita Secretary General wa ODM, tushakuwa na masecretary general wengi, yeye sio wa kwanza. Ababu alienda. Ata yeye ataenda vile Ababu alienda…..Nataka kuambia Sifuna, wewe Seneta, siku zako za kwenda zinakaribia, na the same same Sifuna ndio yeye anatumiwa na Gachagua. Ata kwa impeachment ya Gachagua kwa senate alileta kisirani. Alipiga tu kura ya impeachment shingo upande,” Aladwa stated.

Aladwa further claimed that Sifuna has joined Gachagua’s faction and that he is being fronted for a Nairobi gubernatorial seat in 2027.

“Na tunajua sai yeye ndio candidate wa Gachagua na hiyo team wa hapa governor seat. Na tunajua hata last week but one amekuwa na Gachagua na Kalonzo na Waititu kwa kanisa huko Kawangware. Tunajua alishatoka ODM, awache kudanganya watu ati yeye ni Secretary General,” Aladwa claimed.
